Marla Hanover, Manager, Communications & Website

Marla Hanover joined the Kansas City Sports Commission in 2007 as the Office Manager where she managed the internship program and manages onsite IT issues.  In 2013 she became the Communications & Social Media Manager where she managed 13 social accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, managed the website and handled all press releases.  She became the Communications & Website Manager at the beginning of 2018 where she manages the website, marketing emails across the entire organization and handles press releases.

She joined the organization after nine years with All About Travel, Inc. Marla has a Journalism degree from Grand View University (Des Moines) and currently writes book reviews on her personal blog Views from the Passenger Seat and shares her love of books with her neighbors with a Little Free Library in her front yard.

In 2003, Marla completed her first and only marathon at Walt Disney World with her sister Michele.  She is an Iowa Hawkeye fan but supports all Iowa collegiate teams.  She enjoys baseball, Broadway plays, movies, traveling, finding unique restaurants, is a breast cancer survivor and she is rarely without a book.  In 2012 she was able to cross off attending the Tour de France and the Summer Olympics from her bucket list along with Wimbledon in 2014.

Marla grew up on a farm with four older sisters in Webster City, Ia. where she learned many skills including how to replace a car engine.  In 1990 she moved to Kansas City with her husband Scott. They have one daughter, Janine and live in the northland.
