Message From The President
Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate 20 years!
Since our beginning in 1966, the Sports Commission has worked to promote sports and recreation in the Kansas City area at every level. The community reorganized the Sports Commission and Foundation in 1989.
Our leadership helped initiate and support a host of great initiatives that improve our region’s economy and quality of life through sports in 2008.
Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon
- The return of the Big 12 Basketball Championships
- Big 12 Football Championship
- Tour of Missouri
- MIAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournaments
- Annual CBE Basketball Classic
- Missouri vs. Kansas Border Showdown
- NAIA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Championships
Our work since 1989 has helped to support an estimated $700 million in economic impact. And just as important, we are helping a new generation of Kansas Citians access and enjoy the healthy benefits of sports and recreation through our youth clinics and special events.
Border Showdown to stay in KC! On November 27, the Sports Commission and the Kansas City Chiefs announced that the MU vs. KU football game will be played at Arrowhead through 2012.
The entreprenurial SportKC e-commerce initiative offers local event directors and charitable organizations a turnkey solution to manage the promotion of events.
Our team of associates have made it possible for thousands of Kansas Citians to enjoy great sports events and activities. Their hard work, along with the leadership of our inspiring executive committee and board, helps guide our growth and progress.
None of this is possible without your help. Through your financial support and volunteer advocacy, we remain a vital partner to sports enthusiasts, businesses and civic organizations committed to sharing and extending the benefits of sports in the Kansas City area. We are grateful for your generous support, and wish you all the best in 2009.
