WIN for KC Women’s Triathlon
The sold-out WIN for KC Women’s Triathlon on July 31st was another HUGE success! Of the 845 registered participants, 405 were first-time triathletes .Over 200 volunteers and 2,500 spectators encouraged and empowered these women as they challenged themselves!
WIN for KC offered an entire fitness series that began in March, and helped women every step of the way with trainings, events, programs and group workouts. WIN also had an online girls triathlon where girls were able to train with their moms and keep track of their distances, and then received specials shirts, medals, and other treats on race day.
In addition to the great training and race experience, we were proud to continue our “Green Race” Certification from ReSport, by taking extra measures to drastically reduce the race’s carbon footprint. A few of the extensive efforts included recycling paper, plastic and cardboard on site, and composting all food and biodegradable product waste. “Awesome experience. I never push myself, but training and being in the Triathlon made me do that. It was a very empowering experience.”
“This is a fabulously run event and I’ve been telling all my friends to do it with me next year. It gives you so much confidence when you can train for something so hard, then cross the finish line.
The 38th Annual SportKC PROPS (Party Recognizing Outstanding People of Sports) was held at the Midland Theatre on Wednesday, July 14 with a VIP After-Party.
Honorees included Willie Lanier, Mitch Holthus, Bill Hancock, Darrell Stuckey, Mel Tjeerdsma, Larry Holley, Pete Malone and many more.
