We plan to have a social in January at our new office, so be watching for those details.
In 2011, all of us have witnessed a lot of transitioning within the Big 12 Conference. Rest assured, the conference staff and members have reached out personally to affirm their commitment to Kansas City. They, as we, know Kansas City is a strong and vibrant city and are aware of our interest in hosting future events here. Kansas City will continue to be a valuable partner of the Big 12. For 2013 and 2014 the Big 12 Soccer Championships move to Kansas City, Kan., for the first time, to play in the new LIVESTRONG Sporting Park – home of major league soccer’s Sporting Kansas City.
2012 starts off big for us with Abby Wambach, U.S. Women’s World Cup soccer player, as the keynote speaker at the WIN for KC Women’s Sports Awards luncheon on February 3. Log on to WinForKC.org to secure your table to this inspirational event.
March welcomes back the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championship. Be sure to order your VIP packages, an experience you don’t want to miss!
June 16, we’ll host the inaugural Kevin Gray Father’s Day Run.
In July, our city will be vibrant with the MLB All-Star game. We look forward to being a part of the events surrounding the game. You can find updates on ways to become involved, on our website.
And in October, college hockey comes to the Sprint Center for the Ice Breaker Tournament. Army, Maine, Notre Dame and University of Nebraska, Omaha will descend on Kansas City October 12-13. Tickets are already on sale including group and VIP packages.
All of our events can be found on this website.
As we look back at 2011, we were faced with monumental challenges and the loss of Kevin Gray. So many of you reached out and supported us as advocates and friends. Collectively as a staff we were able to reach our goals and objectives thanks to so many of you. During this holiday season please keep Katy Gray and their four daughters in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your past support of both the Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation and WIN for KC. I urge you to stay involved, be a volunteer, an advocate or financial supporter. Sign up for one of our races, attend one of our events, become a sponsor or member. All of you can help us continue to make Kansas City a better place to live, work and play.
To each of yours best wishes on a happy, healthy and active 2012!
