The SportsPage 2012 Fall Newsletter
Message from President/CEO Kathy Nelson
This is my favorite time of year. School sports and marching bands are back. The Chiefs, Royals and Sporting KC are all on the field and it’s comfortable to play a round of golf. The fall NASCAR race will happen at the Kansas Speedway with the Nationwide Series on October 20 and the Sprint Cup Series October 21. I hope you take advantage of the weather and the incredible opportunities in our community to support a youth, high school, collegiate or professional game or event.
Besides all the thrilling fall sports, the KC Sports Commission has some exciting things happening. In this newsletter you will find information on the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon, our community golf tournament partnered with the Convention and Visitors Association and the College Ice Breakers Hockey Tournament at Sprint Center. You won’t want to miss this event featuring some of the top collegiate hockey teams in the country, Army, University of Maine, Notre Dame and University of Nebraska – Omaha.
Registration is now open for the Sprint Thanksgiving Day Run!
Other exciting news is our four new staff members. Welcome Tiffany Goddard, WIN for KC Director, Bradley Brooker, Director of Marketing, and two new event coordinators: Corie Henry and Daveron Kennedy. You’ll find more information about our staff restructuring in this newsletter. Click here to read the reorganization press release.
Just this week we welcomed the National Association of Sports Commission large markets for a two day meeting in Kansas City. The leadership of other sports commissions similar to ours spent time sharing ideas and working through issues our organization faces. This group was also in Kansas City to honor the late Kevin Gray, our previous president. They recognized him with a personalized plaque to be displayed in our office and a donation to the Kevin Gray Family Education fund.
Thank you for supporting our Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation. We are so fortunate to have such great energy behind the events and mission. Please be sure to check out our website for information regarding WIN for KC and lots of opportunities to participate or volunteer.
