Get your pair of Blue Bird Shoelaces!
Many of Children’s TLC’s students have chronic conditions that affect them physically. They have difficulties doing things that should be a part of every child’s childhood: the ability to run and skip and play. Thanks to your support of the Groundhog Run, more than 500 students throughout the greater Kansas City area and Wyandotte County are receiving therapy and educational services from Children’s TLC.
For the 2010 Groundhog Run, we are proud to introduce “Blue Bird Laces.” The Blue Bird was adopted as Children’s TLC’s symbol in 1991, as it signifies Children’s TLC’s goal of helping our students soar beyond their disabilities.
With your additional support, you can let the greater Kansas City community know that you are running in support of Children’s TLC. Donate $25 today and you will receive a pair of bright blue shoelaces as a token of our appreciation and a symbol of your support to Children’s TLC. 100% of net proceeds will benefit Children’s TLC’s programs and services and allow us to continue serving Kansas City’s children with disabilities.
Wear your Blue Bird laces proudly to show you are "tied" to supporting Children’s TLC! Blue Bird laces will be available for pick up at Runner packet pick-up.

About Children's TLC
Since 1947, we have served Kansas City's children with disabilities. Beginning as a nursery school for children with cerebral palsy, we have now grown into a highly regarded, fully-accredited preschool. And over these years, the Kansas City community has supported us through the guidance of a volunteer board of directors, a faithful corps of volunteers, and the generosity of private contributors and public funds. This kind of outstanding community support has provided the resources that allow us to offer exemplary educational and therapeutic services. Located in the state-of-the-art Children's Center Campus, our center-based program is equipped to serve preschool-age children with a variety of disabilities. We provide therapy classrooms, a warm water pool for aquatic therapy, a lunchroom and play areas. In addition, we have a home-based program for children ages three and under who benefit by remaining in their familiar home or child-care environment.
About the Groundhog Run
The Groundhog Run is Children's TLC's major annual fundraiser. This unique racing event was founded in 1982 by Van Cooper, a long-time volunteer and board member. Since his death in 1991, a memorial trophy has been given in his name to the first place 10K team. A 5K event was added in 1998 and the first place team receives a memorial trophy honoring Martha Steadman, volunteer, friend and former board member of Children's TLC. The Groundhog Run is believed to be the only 5K/10K racing event in the nation which is run totally underground, a distinction made possible through the continued generosity of Hunt Midwest Enterprises. With the temperature in the Hunt Midwest SubTropolis at a constant 65-72 degrees year-round, the underground provides an ideal venue for an indoor run during Kansas City's often tough winters. This well-known race draws participants from all over the United States.
All funds raised by the Groundhog Run stay in Kansas City and directly benefit the students of Children's TLC.
