Beneficiaries

As an individual, team or volunteer you can raise funds to support this great community event. There are several options to give back and help provide financial support for our worthy causes. You will have the option to make a monetary donation as you register to either participate or volunteer. You will also have the option to create a fundraising page.  Here you can set a personal goal and start recruiting friends, family and co-workers to donate and help meet your goal.  All of this can be handled online for convenience and security purposes. We will also award great prizes to our top individual and team fundraisers for this event.

Kevin Gray

The race will benefit three extremely worthy causes and here is some information on each of them.

Kevin Gray Family Education Fund
Established to help offset expenses for Kevin and Katy’s four daughters to complete their educations: Lindsay and Caroline are in college (currently in their junior and freshman years) and Peepers and Gigi are in high school (also currently in their junior and freshman years). Nothing was more important to KG than these four young ladies.

University of Kansas Cancer Center
Adult sarcoma — the form of cancer that took Kevin’s life way too soon — is rare and funds are greatly needed for research. The University of Kansas Cancer Center is dedicated to the discovery, development and implementation of knowledge, technology and novel therapeutic agents for the treatment and prevention of adult sarcomas.

Greater Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation

The organization Kevin led from 1989 until 2011. Kevin served as the organization’s president, leading the revitalization of the Sports Commission from a one-person office to a multifaceted privately-funded nonprofit operation that includes year-round programming, services and initiatives, more than 150 annual events, more than 800 individual and business members, and 13 full-time associates. Under Kevin’s leadership, KCSC&F has generated in excess of $750 million in revenue for the Kansas City region.

Kevin Gray Player of the Year Awards

In 2011 Sporting Kansas City established the Kevin Gray Player of the Year Awards in partnership with GSI Sports for soccer players in the Kansas City area in honor and memory of the late Kansas City Sports Commission president Kevin Gray.

The Kevin Gray Awards consist of honors for both a male and female Youth Player of the Year given to local high school seniors based on their performance in both high school and club soccer throughout the year. An Adult Player of the Year award will also be given to a current collegiate or professional player with Kansas City roots.

“With Kevin Gray’s passing, Kansas City lost a great champion for its amateur and professional sports programs,” Sporting Kansas City Chief Operating Officer Greg Cotton said.  “Kevin was a fierce advocate for the sport of soccer at all levels, and this important award could not have been more appropriately named.”
