Kansas City, MO. (July 16, 2012) - Pollstar Magazine, A leading concert and venue industry publication, released the 2012 Mid-Year Report including rankings for live entertainment and concert ticket sales. In the issue which hits newsstands this week, Sprint Center, Kansas City's award winning arena, is ranked as the fourth busiest arena in the United States and no. 20 among worldwide venues. Pollstar utilizes an extensive database to collect box office reports from nearly 100 percent of the world's top-level artists, promoters and venues.
“Kansas City’s knowledgeable and passionate fans continue to exceed expectations of artists, promoters and managers as evidenced by the ranking as America’s 4th busiest arena,” said Brenda Tinnen, AEG Kansas City general manager and senior vice president. “As Sprint Center prepares to celebrate our 5th anniversary this fall, we are humbled by Kansas City’s healthy appetite for diverse entertainment content and look forward to continuing the successful momentum as 2012 comes to a close.”
2012 continues to be a strong year for diverse programming at Sprint Center. In addition to debuting axs.com, a new ticketing platform, Sprint Center hosted nearly a dozen sold-out concerts across varied genres including Jason Aldean, Jimmy Buffett, Brad Paisley, Jeff Dunham, George Strait and Martina McBride, Radiohead, Drake and Lady Antebellum, as well as family shows and motorsports events. Additionally, Sprint Center earned its third consecutive Venue of the Year nomination from the Academy of Country Music as well as launching a venue-specific mobile application available on both the Android and iOS platforms.
Rankings are based on tickets sold for live entertainment performances between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2012. Working in partnership with promoters and managers to attract first-class live entertainment to the region, AEG/Sprint Center has provided more than $6.1 million in unanticipated revenue to the City of Kansas City, having exceeded financial and attendance projections in each year since opening.
