Internship Program

The Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation and WIN for KC offers internships for a four month period.  These positions are a great way to earn college academic credit as well as a wide variety of experience in the sports management field.   Internships are unpaid, but interns have the opportunity to network with high-profile individuals in the community and attend a variety of sports-related activities and events. Preference is given to current students, but recent graduates may also apply.  Out-of-state candidates are welcome, no housing is offered.

Full time internships only (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday) and some nights and weekends

Interns will have the chance to work with all departments and staff on various projects. This will include preparing for meetings, research for proposals, upkeep of the organization’s website, helping organize membership events, attending board and staff meetings and help answer customer service calls.  Interns will have the opportunity to help with social media, writing feature articles and creating e-mail blasts.

Interns will also have the opportunity to assist with program development including securing donations, organizing volunteers, set-up/tear down at events and running errands.  Interns will work all Sports Commission and WIN for KC events during their internship.  This could include the WIN for KC Women’s Sports Awards Celebration Luncheon (January), Kansas City’s Big 12 5K Fun Run (March), KC Sports Commission Awards Banquet (April), Youth Clinics (throughout the year), Kevin Gray Father’s Day Run (June), Camp WIN (June), WIN for KC Women’s Triathlon (July), Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds (October), Thanksgiving Day 5K & Family Stroll (Thanksgiving Day) along with collegiate events such as the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship, NCAA Soccer Championships and other championships secured by the Sports Commission through the NCAA bid process.

It is important interns have the ability to develop ideas, follow through on program initiatives, deal effectively with the public, and have a thorough knowledge and understanding of sports.  Experience with desktop publishing programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, InDesign, Photoshop) is highly desirable.  Some events involve heavy lifting and long hours.  Interns are also expected to work at all Sports Commission and WIN for KC special events, which occasionally occur on evenings and weekends.
