Triathlon Training Resources


Listed below are some great opportunities to help you prepare for our race!  These opportunities are hosted by some of our great partners in the community and we encourage you to take advantage of them as you prepare to cross the finish line.

4-Week Triathlon Training
Hosted by the Legacy Tri Team with USAT Certified Coach and USAT Youth and Junior Coach

When: Bike – Mondays at noon; Swim – Tuesdays at noon; Run – Thursdays at noon

Cost: $75 (Bike, Swim & Run) or $25 each (Bike, Swim or Run)

Tri-Training Swim Clinic
Hosted by Kansas City YMCA & Platte County Parks & Recreation

When: May 16, 23 (Wednesdays)
Time: 11-11:45 a.m.
Where: Platte County Community Center South

Free to YMCA members.  Clinic will focus on freestyle technique to help get ready for open water swimming.

Women’s Triathlon Training
Hosted by Kansas City YMCA & Platte County Parks & Recreation

When: May 30 – July 25 (8 week training session)
Time: Wednesday 6-7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Platte County Community Center South
First Session: Wednesday, May 30, 6-7:30 p.m.
Cost: Y Members – $70; Community Participants – $100

First Session – Orientation meeting and the first training session will include a one mile run and a 30 minute swim.

Training Benefits:

  • Suitable for first-time and veteran triathletes
  • Improve distance, performance and speed
  • Increase motivation and accountability

KC Women Tri Clinic
Hosted by KC Women Tri

When: June 4 – July 23 (Mondays)
Time: Starts promptly at 6 p.m. (must exit water at 6:45 p.m.)
Where: Longview Lake Beach House, 11101 Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64134
Cost: $80 (onetime fee for clinic), $15 onetime USAT pass or bring annual USAT membership card
Lake Swim Fee: Bring $5 each Monday to enter the swim beach

Late Registration Fee: additional $25 after May 30.

Group Bike Ride
Hosted by Garmin

When: June 6 and July 11 (Wednesdays)
Time: 6:30 p.m. Arrive by 6:15 to try out loaner device and be ready to roll out at 6:30
Where: Garmin International Headquarters – North Lobby, 1300 Mahaffie Circle, Olathe, KS 66062

Park in guest parking, within the parking garage and meet in the plaza area in front of the North Lobby entrance.

Open Water Swim Clinic
Hosted by JCPRD Women’s Triathlon & Duathlon

When: Tuesday, June 12
Time: 5:30-7 p.m.
Where: Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee, KS 66219
Cost: $7 per participant to be paid to lifeguard staff at the beach house before the clinic begins

Coaches will be present to assist athletes with technique and give tips and advice for your open water swim.  Participants will meet on the north side of the beach.  Call 913-826-2964 with questions.

Beginner’s Forum – FREE
Hosted by WIN for KC

When: Wednesday, June 27
Time: 6-7:30 p.m.
Where: Garmin International Headquarters, 1200 E 151st Street, Olathe, KS 66062

This is a great time to have all questions answered by the professionals.

Transition 101 & Open Water Swim Clinic
Hosted by JCPRD Women’s Triathlon & Duathlon

When: Thursday, June 28
Time: 5:30-7 p.m.
Where: Kill Creek Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe, KS 66061
Cost: $7 per participant to be paid to the lifeguard staff before entering the beach.

Please bring your bike and transition gear as there will be a short talk (30 minutes) about best practices for transition set up.  Optional ride after the group swim as well.  Coaches will be on site to help with open water swim technique as well as offering tips and training advice for your open water swim.  Call 913-826-2964 with questions.
