GENERAL RACE INFORMATION
What is the I-35 Challenge?
The I-35 Challenge is a partnership between the Garmin Kansas City Marathon and the IMT Des Moines Marathon. The two events take place on the same weekend in October. The goal of the challenge is to complete both races.
What are the options?
Full Marathon Challenge
- Participants who register to run the full marathon in Kansas City AND the full marathon in Des Moines.
Half Marathon Challenge
- Participants who register to run the half marathon in Kansas City AND the half marathon in Des Moines.
Half Marathon – Full Marathon Challenge
- Participants who register to run the half marathon in Kansas City and the full marathon in Des Moines OR Participants who register to run the full marathon in Kansas City and the half marathon in Des Moines.
NOTE: When registering for the I-35 Challenge, you will not need to select a specific combination. The I-35 Challenge registration will apply for any event combination between the two races.
Am I required to have the COVID-19 vaccine to participate in this event?
In accordance with local guidelines, you are not required to be vaccinated to participate in a large, outdoor events. However, we do recommend participants take any safety precautions needed to feel comfortable at the race. Those could include wearing masks in close proximity to others and being fully vaccinated. Most importantly, if you are not feeling well or have respiratory symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please do the responsible thing and stay home. We appreciate your help in practicing good public health protocols.

REGISTRATION
How do I participate?
You must register for BOTH Marathons or Half Marathons through each event website, as you normally would, and then complete an additional registration for the I-35 Challenge.

Why do I have to register 3 separate times?
Each race registration fee is utilized for various race expenses. The additional fee for the I-35 Challenge is to cover the cost of the official I-35 Challenge participant items, i.e. shirt, bib and finisher medal.
Do you offer refunds?
No, refunds will not be allowed.
What do I get for completing the I-35 Challenge?
For completing the I-35 Challenge, participants will receive the following: Garmin Kansas City Marathon participant shirt, Garmin Kansas City Marathon finisher medal, IMT Des Moines Marathon participant shirt, IMT Des Moines Marathon finisher medal, I-35 Challenge participant shirt, I-35 Challenge finisher medal
PACKET PICK UP
Where is packet pick Up located?
I-35 Challenge participants will pick up their I-35 Challenge packet, along with their Garmin Kansas City Marathon packet, in Kansas City at the Health & Fitness Expo.
I-35 Challenge participants will also check in at the IMT Des Moines Marathon packet pick Up in Des Moines, when they pick up their IMT Des Moines Marathon packet.
Is race day packet pick up allowed?
Packet pick up for the Garmin Kansas City Marathon must take place at the Health & Fitness Expo. Race day packet pick up is not available.
If you are unable to attend the IMT Des Moines Marathon packet pick up during the normal packet pick up hours, please contact the IMT Des Moines Marathon at info@desmoinesmarathon.com.
T-SHIRTS & MEDALS
Where do I get the I-35 Challenge shirt?
The I-35 Challenge shirt will be handed out in Kansas City at packet pick up in addition to the Garmin Kansas City Marathon participant shirt.
Where do I get the I-35 Challenge finisher medal?
The medal will be given to the participants who cross the finish line in Des Moines in addition to the IMT Des Moines Marathon finisher medal.
