KANSAS CITY, MO (March 18, 2026) – Throughout the last two weeks, Kansas City has played host to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournaments. Both tournaments left lasting impacts throughout the Kansas City community by welcoming high-level competition, record-breaking crowds, and an economic boost to the region.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 11, 2026) – Kansas City Women's Basketball welcomes back Candi Whitaker to return as the program's next head coach heading into the 2026-27 season, Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin announced Wednesday morning. The 18-year head coaching veteran returns to familiar territory as Whitaker took the reins of the Roos back in 2006 and led Kansas City for six seasons as the seventh head coach in program history. Whitaker will now become the Roos' 11th head coach since joining Division I in 1987-88.

KANSAS CITY, MO (February 18, 2026) – The Minnesota Lynx announced today they will play the Nigerian Women’s National Team in a WNBA preseason game at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, MO on Monday, April 27. Hosted by ProHoops Sports & Events, this will be the first WNBA game played in the City of Fountains since 2005.

KANSAS CITY, MO (February 11, 2026) – World Rugby, in partnership with USA Rugby and TEG Rugby Live, has officially announced Kansas City will host a monumental double-header as part of the 2026 Pacific Four Series, the sixth edition of the annual intercontinental elite women’s rugby competition between the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. CPKC Stadium will play host to a double-header of matches with Canada facing the Black Ferns, and USA squaring off with Australia.

KANSAS CITY, MO (February 6, 2026) – This week, WIN for KC celebrated National Girls and Women in Sport Day with the Women’s Sports Awards presented by Burns & McDonell. The annual award ceremony recognizes and celebrates girls and women from the around the Kansas City making a difference in sport. WIN for KC welcomed over 2,000 guests at T-Mobile Center for the program.  

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 1, 2026) – One of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, Mark Turgeon has been named the head coach of Kansas City men's basketball heading into the 2026-27 season, UMKC Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin announced on Sunday. Turgeon is the program's ninth head coach since elevating to Division I in 1987-88.
