KANSAS CITY, MO (May 14, 2026) – Last week, WIN Wellness hosted its annual Corporate Women’s Health Retreat presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Held at the Unity Village R.D. Goppert Event Center, the event gave local female corporate employees an opportunity to step away from their daily routines and focus on their mental health and overall well-being. Attendees participated in educational sessions and physical activities centered on the importance of mental wellness. The event highlights a meaningful time, as May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Studies have shown that women are 1.5 times more likely than men to leave their job in search of an employer that prioritizes employee well-being, highlighting the growing importance of initiatives like this in today’s workplace.
“This event is one that represents where we want to go as an organization. The impact we can make, along with the ripple effect this event has, fuels us to continue this work. One of the most rewarding things I heard from an attendee was how excited she was to come back after last year’s event. Not only did the event live up to her expectations, she said it had even improved.”
Taylor Banks, Director of WIN for KC
Education
Attendees began their day with educational sessions focusing on mental health. Rebekah Reyes Adams, Program Manager at Blue KC, led discussions and shared her expertise on mental wellness, specifically focusing on how women can reclaim clarity in their daily lives. Adams highlighted the many responsibilities and expectations women often face, emphasizing that having the ability to take something on does not necessarily mean they should. She encouraged attendees to empower those around them by sharing roles and responsibilities, creating more space for balance, focus, and clarity in everyday life.
Physical Health
Following the educational sessions, attendees had the opportunity to put wellness into practice through a variety of physical activities designed to support both mental and overall health. Women broke into four groups and rotated through interactive sessions that demonstrated how setting aside even 30 minutes for movement and mindfulness can have a meaningful impact on daily well-being.
The activities included a workout class, yoga session, nature walk, and guided meditation, each offering a different approach to managing stress and promoting balance. Whether participants were engaging in physical movement, spending time outdoors, or practicing mindfulness, the sessions encouraged attendees to step away from the demands of everyday life and focus on their personal health. The hands-on experiences reinforced the event’s message that wellness can take many forms and that incorporating small moments of self-care into a busy schedule is both achievable and beneficial.
WIN Wellness
In 2025, WIN for KC launched WIN Wellness as a new approach to wellbeing, inspired by the lessons we’ve learned through sports. WIN Wellness is a mental health initiative and fundraising campaign dedicated to creating awareness, resources and programming around mental health for women and girls in the Kansas City region.
The Corporate Women’s Health Retreat continues our mission of WIN Wellness and aids the support our future generation, as proceeds of the event will be used to add dedicated mental health and wellness components to WIN for KC’s existing events and programming, including Camp WIN.
